Interface Tour

The Captain Who main interface has three broad areas: manage work on the left, collaborate with the agent in the center, and view or operate tools on the right.

The top of the left sidebar contains three common entry points:

  • New conversation: Start a new root conversation.
  • Search: Search local conversation titles and content, then return to the matching conversation.
  • Scheduled: Manage scheduled automations. A badge indicates that one or more tasks need attention.

Below, records are organized under “Pinned,” “Projects,” and “Conversations.” You can pin, rename, archive, or mark a conversation unread. For projects, you can start a new conversation, pin the project, reveal it in the file manager, rename it, archive its conversations in bulk, or remove it.

“Remove project” deletes the local conversation and attachment records for that project from Captain Who, but does not delete files in the project folder. This data operation cannot be undone; read the confirmation dialog carefully.

The local profile appears at the bottom of the left sidebar. Select it to open “Settings.”

Center area: tasks and conversations

The new-conversation screen asks, “What should we build?” Around the composer, you can configure:

  • Project: Select an existing project, choose no project, or create a project with the system folder picker.
  • Model: Choose from models that are enabled and have complete connection settings.
  • Permissions: Default, Full, or Custom. Whether the latter two appear depends on “Settings → General.”
  • Attachments: Select “Add context (+)” to choose a file or image, or drag, drop, or paste files.
  • Skill: Select the capability package for the current run under “Add context (+) → Skills.”

Press Enter to send and Shift+Enter for a new line. While the agent is running, the send button can add a new message to the queue. When the composer is empty, the button stops the current generation. Stopping does not undo external actions that have already completed.

The conversation timeline shows responses, tool activity, file changes, commands, approvals, plans, and artifacts. Available actions include copying and bookmarking messages, editing the last completed user message, and choosing “Continue in a new task” from a completed response.

“New panel” in the right sidebar can open:

  • Terminal: A real terminal for the user. Its session remains bound to the project directory where it was created.
  • Browser: The managed in-app browser, with support for multiple pages.
  • Files: The project tree and read-only previews.
  • Review: Git changes, diffs, staging, unstaging, and reverting.
  • Subagents: Appears only after the current task has created subagents; use it to inspect status and read-only conversations.

You can switch, close, resize, or maximize right-sidebar pages. The current page stack and most page state persist only for the current app session and are not guaranteed to return after a restart.

Settings: configure capability boundaries

Settings currently include:

  • General: Language, permission modes, and custom permissions.
  • Profile, Appearance, and Personalization: Local display settings and default response preferences.
  • Configuration: Models, web search, and image generation.
  • Usage and cost estimates: Local token statistics and estimates.
  • Skills, Subagents, and MCP: Extend agent capabilities.
  • Environment: Manage projects.
  • Archived conversations: Restore or permanently delete conversations.

You can search for settings pages from the top of Settings. The MCP editor protects unsaved changes and asks whether to discard them before you leave.
